NARROWBAND MANDATE REMINDER
For
Part 90 frequencies between 150 – 174 MHz & 421 – 512 MHz.
Important
Deadlines
- On January 1, 2011 the
following restrictions will be put in place:
§
New system applications must be 12.5 KHz or less.
§
Modifications of existing licenses that expand the authorized
contour of a 25 KHz station are prohibited.
§
Manufacturing of new equipment that operates on 25 KHz will be
prohibited.
§
The purpose of this interim deadline is to encourage licensees to
begin planning and implementing migration to narrowband technology well before
January 1, 2013.
- On January 1, 2013 the
following restrictions will be put in place:
§
All existing licenses must operate on a 12.5 KHz or less bandwidth
channel.
§
This does not necessarily imply that any licensee is guaranteed two
12.5 KHz channels from a previously licensed 25 KHz channel.
§
Licensees must apply for new
narrowband licenses or modify existing licensees while justifying channel
requirements before this deadline.
